Indigenous people inhabited Australia for at least 40,000 years prior to European exploration. They developed hundreds of languages, as well as complex Creation myths or “Dreamings,” which defined the actions and relationships of ancestral beings – both human and animal – to the land and to one another, and dictated codes of conduct. It was not until the early 1970s that the Aboriginal people, the world's oldest living culture, were encouraged to share their pictorial traditions with the “outside world” by painting them on canvas. Since the first paintings were created at the remote Papunya settlement deep in the Central Desert, Aboriginal artists have continued to paint their country and their ancestral stories in strikingly contemporary fashion. In the Dreamtime... features over two dozen works by contemporary Australian Aboriginal artists from a variety of settlements, giving viewers a comprehensive glimpse into the oldest contemporary art in the world.

Featuring 49 works from Gulf Coast artists, Turning Point is a fascinating overview of masterworks in this ancient field of artistry that has undergone significant changes. Though the origin of woodturning dates to 1300 BC, the continued improvement of machinery and technology has allowed craftsmen to develop work with continued levels of intricacy and skill, truly raising this lathe-based technique from craft to fine art.

Kinsmen Lutheran Church will host their third annual Fair Trade & Alternative Gift Festival from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, December 4. The event will feature many items from "The Cave" Gift Shop located in Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem. Other items will include olive wood carvings from the Holy Land, fair trade coffee, tea and chocolates, and alternative gifts in the form of donations to Reach Unlimited, World Hunger, and Central African Republic.

T.E.A.M. Abilities is hosting a Candlelight Caroling event on Saturday, December 3. The event is free and open to the public. Carolers of all ages are encouraged to meet at Rachel’s Vintique Market, located at 26525 Preston Ave. in Old Town Spring at 5:00 p.m. for a 5:30 p.m. start. Staff will lead the carolers all through Old Town Spring to spread the holiday cheer, eventually meeting back at the shop for refreshments and cookies. TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Abilities, Inc., is a service provider for individuals with developmental disabilities. With two locations in North Houston and The Woodlands, TEAM Abilities, Inc., provides day habilitation, residential assistance, supported employment, and other services and resources to clients.

Experience the heart-warming story of the "The Nutcracker" and meet characters from the ballet at LSC-University Park's Tea with the Sugar Plum fairy. This special performance by members of the Houston Dance Theater ushers in the holiday season with a classic tale that appeals to young and old alike. We have paired the performance with a special tea prepared by chefs from the Kingdom of the Sweets.

Kinsmen Lutheran Church invites the community to their free Abendmusik concert series. The December concert, "A World of Carols," will feature readings and seasonal music from around the world. All concerts are free and open to the public. Please join us!

A family holiday concert by The Cypress Creek Community Chorale, orchestra, children and handbells.

The Ambassadors promote goodwill to Chamber members, provide a direct personal contact for Chamber members by mentoring new members, and support Chamber member retention efforts. Ambassadors are “the friendly front-line face of the Chamber” and as such are asked to support and participate in various Chamber activities. Areas of primary responsibility include: ribbon cutting ceremonies, luncheons, routine member visits and phone calls, and hosting at other Chamber events.

Light the World at the Pearl! December 9th-11th, the Pearl will hold its second Season of Light exhibition in the Northgate Forest Conference Room. See stunning nativities and menorahs collected by local families in the Northwest Houston area! Join us December 9th at 6:00pm for the opening party, with holiday songs performed by Doris & Leo Carville. December 10th, Santa will visit the Pearl from 12-2p and carolers will perform at the museum at 3:00p. Sunday, December 11th, we will have a special performance by the Klein High School Choir!

“Breakfast with Santa” event to be held on December 17 in The Woodlands If you’ve spent all year on the Nice List, it’s time to get to IGi Playground and tell Santa all of your Christmas wishes. On December 17, IGi Playground of The Woodlands will host “Breakfast with Santa,” a special family event featuring jolly old Saint Nicholas and lots of Christmas cheer. Children can have their picture taken with Santa, and parents will receive a souvenir photo in a special commemorative frame. Cost for the event is $25 by reservation onlyat 832-299-6666, and includes a delicious breakfast specially prepared at IGi’s Café. Children will also receive a Christmas goodie bag to take home. For those who are grieving or struggling this holiday season, Kinsmen Lutheran Church offers a special "Longest Night" service. This service recognizes that Christmas can be a painful time for some, and provides the space to acknowledge your sadness and let you know that you are not alone. All who are struggling this season are invited to come and join in sharing and hearing prayers, scripture and music that acknowledges that God's presence is for those who struggle and mourn, and that God's Word comes to shine light into our darkness. This short service will be followed by a brief time for refreshments and fellowship. All are welcome.

Celebrate Christmas at Kinsmen! The community is warmly invited to attend Christmas Eve candlelight services at Kinsmen Lutheran Church. 4 p.m. - Family Service 6 p.m. - Contemporary Worship 8 and 10 p.m. - Traditional Worship with choir and brass. Holy Communion will be offered at each service. All are welcome, so please celebrate with us!
