Name: Spring Exhibitions at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts
Date: January 30, 2021 - May 1, 2021
Event Description:
The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is delighted to present its spring exhibitions, which open January 30 and continue through May 1, 2021. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. "Expressions of the ‘70s: Dick Wray, Earl Staley, and Contemporaries" will be featured in the Main Gallery, with "Peihong Endris: Orchestrated Dance of Ink & Water" in the Cole Gallery. "Expressions of the ‘70s" features 12 artists, nine of whom lived or had ties to Houston. Houston was a city on the cusp of exploding growth and change in the 1970s, as the oil industry grew to new heights, the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center directed a series of successful moon launches, and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston underwent a multi-million dollar face lift. It was in this setting that Houston’s art scene rose to national prominence. A common spirit wove together many of the city’s artists, who frequently took risks to explore styles and themes using their dynamic, raw, creative energy. "Expressions of the ‘70s" highlights several of these remarkable artists. "Orchestrated Dance of Ink & Water" features the work of watercolor artist Peihong Endris. Rooted in Chinese traditions, Peihong paints with a vigorous style to create paintings that carry profound messages. Her artwork has been exhibited in China, South Korea, Singapore, and Tokyo, as well as stateside in California and throughout Texas. Peihong currently resides in Houston, where she has led workshops on Chinese ink art at institutions including the Glassell School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Watercolor Art Society – Houston, Rice University, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the Jung Center. The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts exists to provide direct, first-hand access to original works of art, and to offer outstanding educational and public programming. As the only Fine Arts museum in Harris County outside the city center of Houston, the Pearl operates completely through the generous donations of individuals, businesses and foundations from the greater Houston community, and is free to all. Special health and safety precautions are currently in place for the protection of all visitors. Art lovers may also enjoy exhibitions and numerous at-home opportunities through the Pearl’s website during the COVID-19 pandemic.
